PLUR Vibes✨ How To Bring It

It’s all about respect, respect to the music, respect to the DJs,
respect to the crowd, and respect to each other.

WHAT IS PLUR?

PLUR meaning ‘Peace, Love, Unity, and Respect’ is an important principle for tenants of camping music festivals to live by, at camp and beyond. PLUR is more than an acronym — it’s a way of life.

The reach of the PLUR community has grown over the decades along with the rise of electric dance music (EDM). Today, kandi trading is a popular activity among patrons at many events like ULTRA, Electric Daisy Carnival (EDC), and Bonnaroo.

WHAT IS KANDI?

Kandi refers to a wide range of things that can be gifted or exchanged. The most popular kandi created by the PLUR community is jewelry, typically bracelets made of pony and letter beads strung together on stretchy string. Beaded cuffs, face masks, necklaces, and other jewelry are also common. Materials include Perler beads, yarn, wood, charms, glitter, lights, as well as things like stickers, crystals, guitar picks, rubber duckies, clothes pins, finger puppets, etc etc etc…

KANDI TRADING 101

Giving and getting kandi is a loving gesture that can be performed either ritualistically or organically. You can also decline to accept any kandi offer, but you can remain open to receiving even if you don’t have any physical kandi to gift back. A hug is a beautiful gift you can offer to anyone.

Kandi trading happens among frens but is most common between complete strangers as random acts of kindness. People may open with “would you like to trade?” or “do you have any kandi to trade?” You can then opt to perform the kandi handshake:

  1. PEACE: Join peace fingers (index and middle)
  2. LOVE: Create a heart with thumbs pointed down
  3. UNITY: Palms flat together
  4. RESPECT: Fingers interlocked
  5. Trade bracelets by sliding over interlocked fingers
  6. Hug, smile, and carry on 👋

Sometimes it’s not the song that makes you emotional,
it’s the people and things that come to mind when you hear it.

PUTTING the R in PLURR: RESPONSIBILITY

Responsibility is an important aspect of camping music festivals (AND BEYOND!). This includes personal responsibility (please read The Bonnaroovian Code if you haven’t already), the responsibility to look out for one another (like offering completely unsolicited water or sunscreen to someone who might be in need), responsibility for our surroundings (both personal and communal), responsibility for Mother Earth (leave no trace), etc.

PEACE + LOVE + UNITY + RESPECT + RESPONSIBILITY = PLURR
